Dr. Hargarten is a Professor of Emergency Medicine, immediate past Chair of the Department of Emergency Medicine, founding Associate Dean of Global Health, and founding Director of the Comprehensive Injury Center at the Medical College of Wiscon-sin. Dr. Hargarten’s research reflects an intersection of injury, violence prevention, and health policy. His research linking data systems to understand violent deaths helped in-form development of CDC’s National Violent Death Reporting System and provided new insights into the ballistics of bullets that are linked to civilian deaths and injuries. He was inducted into the Johns Hopkins Society of Scholars and, in 2011, was elected to the National Academy of Medicine (NAM), recognized for his significant contributions to injury control, medicine, and public health.
