Meet CTSI 500 Star, Kenyon Proby

Greetings, my name is Kenyon Proby. I have been a part of CTSI’s 500 Stars Program for two years. CTSI has opened my eyes to the world of science in a way that I would have never imagined, through research.

There are many issues in the world, such as cancer and the opioid epidemic where research is vital to help save lives. I have gained research experience in both societal issues, by being a part of SMART teams in the CTSI 500 Stars Program. I’ve learned that what we eat can affect our DNA, our bodies, and our lives. I have learned how antioxidants help reduce free radicals which reduces cancer.

I have also had an opportunity to learn in depth how opioids affect the brain and neurotransmitters in the brain. CTSI has given me the opportunity to view a human brain and view human cadavers that were all donated to research. I realize that I can change the world through science by finding solutions through research.

CTSI has helped me excel in my current high school Chemistry, Honors Advanced Algebra, and Trigonometry classes. My math skills were strengthened by participating in a SMART team this past summer. Since I have participated in CTSI 500 Stars Program, I have met some cool people and I have gained an interest in majoring in pre-pharmacy.

I am grateful to be a part of the CTSI 500 Stars Program.
