The Biostatistics & Epidemiology Research Design (BERD) Program provides easily accessible, high-quality, and efficient consultation support to clinical and translational investigators by connecting them to a network of resources.
It offers collaboration on the development of Institutional Review Board (IRB) proposals, federal and private grant proposals, and Clinical & Translational Science Institute (CTSI) proposals and assistance in using national databases to study important health issues.
BERD provides continuing education in statistical design and statistical methods for clinical and basic science investigators. BERD faculty perform original biostatistical research on topics related to the design and analysis of Clinical and Translational Research.
AIMS & OBJECTIVES
Specific Aim 1 – Foster the next generation translational workforce by providing BERD education and training designed to increase quantitative knowledge and skills in using appropriate methodologies and embracing state-of-the-art technologies. Objective 1: Create a data science certificate related to translational research
Objective 2: Use the mini-grant mechanism as the main BERD consultation vehicle
Objective 3: Integrate existing resources to complement BERD services
Objective 4: Enhance the visibility of BERD services
Specific Aim 2 – Provide Integrated Clinical Research Ensembles and Clusters with dedicated statistical support and analytical solutions to evaluate the effectiveness of institution-wide translational research initiatives
Objective 1: Work with ICRE project management to develop a process for providing and offering BERD support to approved ICREs
Objective 2: Develop a plan to evaluate the effectiveness of ensembles on promoting team science
Objective 3: Provide requested support to ensembles as requested
