Center for Technology Commercialization (CTC) Consultation Service
CTSI, in collaboration with the Center for Technology Commercialization (CTC), now provides free consultation services for business development and funding in the CTSI office suite on the MCW campus. Consultation services are available from 1 – 5 pm on the first Wednesday of each month, or other days by appointment, during regular office hours.
This offering serves as a vital resource for early stage businesses in providing assistance from “feasibility to funding.” Consultation services include assessing the commercial merits of your technology, devising strategies to move forward with business development and funding, and finding support and resources necessary for bringing innovation to market.
The CTC works with the National Institutes of Health’s (NIH) Small Business Innovation Research (SBIR) and Small Business Technology Transfer (STTR) programs in evaluating the feasibility of idea(s), as well as planning and applying for federal R&D grants, seed angel or venture funding, business plans and more.
What are SBIR and STTR?
The National Institutes of Health’s (NIH) Small Business Innovation Research (SBIR) and Small Business Technology Transfer (STTR) programs are among the largest sources of early-stage capital for innovative small companies in Americas, allowing US-owned and operated small businesses to engage in federally-supported research and development (R&D) and fostering stronger potential for commercialization.
In Fiscal Year 2016, the programs invested over 780 million dollars into emerging health and life science companies, creating a spectrum of innovative technologies which align with NIH’s mission to improve health and save lives. A key objective of this work is the translation of promising technologies to the private sector through strategic public and private partnerships, helping life-saving innovations reach consumer markets. The CTSI/CTC collaboration ensures that additional, strategic translational expertise from its eight partner institutions is available to support innovation efforts.
