CTSI & MSOE Deep Learning Initiative

CTSI & Milwaukee School of Engineering Deep Learning Initative

CTSI launched the Deep Learning Initiative to support our clinical and translational investigators, clinicians, and other stakeholders.

This opportunity offers new capabilities and resources for deep learning and artificial intelligence (AI) algorithms supported by high performance computing that advances our footprint in the clinical and translational research arena.

Leveraging the strengths of our CTSI partner institution, Milwaukee School of Engineering (MSOE), researchers and clinicians can apply to work collaboratively with the support and expertise of Faculty and students at MSOE who will participate as team members to enable and/or advance their research projects.

MSOE is on the leading edge of technological revolution—solving real-world problems using algorithms, applied mathematics, deep learning and AI in a hands-on environment. AI and related topics are incorporated into the curriculum of all degree programs. The state-of-the-art Dwight and Dian Diercks Computational Science Hall is a $34 million, innovative and experiential learning center for both MSOE and the community. It is home to Rosie, MSOE’s supercomputer. Rosie is an NVIDIA GPU-accelerated AI supercomputer with three NVIDIA DGX-1s, each with eight NVIDIA V100 Tensor Core GPUs, and 20 servers each with four NVIDIA T4 GPUs. The nodes are joined together by Mellanox networking fabric and share 200 TB of network-attached storage.

MSOE experts will use de-identified and anonymized data, plus the power of Rosie, to help investigators improve the quality and efficacy of clinical and translational research and move it from the laboratory to the bedside in a timely fashion.

CTSI aims to accelerate discovery and innovation in deep learning and artificial intelligence that inspires innovative and novel ideas in this important area towards our overarching goal to advance health through research and discovery.
