"Let's Replace STEMI/Non-STEMI with Occlusion MI vs. Non-Occlusion MI" (OMI/NOMI)

The 2026 Tom P. Aufderheide Endowed Lecture will feature Stephen W. Smith, MD, FACEP. The lecture, “Let's Replace STEMI/Non-STEMI with Occlusion MI vs. Non-Occlusion MI” will be presented on Thursday, September 24, 2026 from 10:00 a.m. – noon in the Bolger Auditorium at the MCW Milwaukee Campus. Lunch will follow the presentation. Attendees will also be able to attend the presentation via Zoom.

Dr. Smith has been a Faculty of Emergency Medicine at Hennepin Healthcare since 1991 and Professor of Emergency Medicine at the University of Minnesota since 2014. He has authored over 190 peer-reviewed publications focused on ruling out acute myocardial infarction (MI), specifically on the role of ECG in acute MI. He is recognized internationally for “Dr. Smith’s ECG Blog,” a free, open-access site, featuring over 1,800 posts highlighting complex ECG cases; most relating to subtle acute coronary occlusion. The blog has more than 26 million pageviews from readers worldwide. His ECG insights are so sufficiently novel and cutting edge that his site has over 55,000 Twitter followers and over 350,000 Facebook followers. In 2018, he and his colleagues introduced the transformative Occlusion MI (OMI) paradigm. He has also trained the Queen of Hearts PM Cardio AI deep neural network model to diagnose acute coronary occlusion from the 12-lead ECG with very high sensitivity and specificity. This technology is being used internationally to rapidly diagnose acute coronary occlusion, saving myocardium and lives.
