"Reversing Death and Exploring What Happens When We Die: Past, Present and Future of Cardiac Arrest"
The 2024 Tom P. Aufderheide Endowed Lecture will feature Sam Parnia, MD, PhD. The lecture, “Reversing Death and Exploring What Happens When We Die: Past, Present and Future of Cardiac Arrest” will be presented on Thursday, September 26, 2024 from 10:30 a.m. – noon in the Bolger Auditorium at the MCW Milwaukee Campus. Lunch will follow the presentation. Attendees will also be able to attend the presentation via Zoom.
Dr. Parnia is an internationally recognized researcher in anoxic/ischemic brain injury, cardiac arrest and post-cardiac arrest syndrome. His basic science research has resulted in novel pharmacological and physiological neuroprotection strategies. His clinical research has developed real-time bimodal brain monitoring systems, using cerebral oximetry and EEG during CPR. Dr. Parnia’s recent international, multi-center, cardiac arrest study (The AWARE Trial) pioneered the objective study of awareness, consciousness and paradoxical lucidity in some patients undergoing resuscitation.
