Pilot Translational & Clinical Studies Program

Pilot Translational & Clinical Studies Program

The overall goal of the Pilot Translational and Clinical Studies Program (PTCS) is to use designated resources of the partnering institutions to promulgate translational and clinical research in a cohesive manner and to foster interdisciplinary collaborations among the participating institutions.

The pilot project program within the CTSI is transforming the environment in southeast Wisconsin to take clinical and translational research to a new level that is energized, organized, cooperative, and operates to the benefit of all the institutions to support and foster research.

Aims

The specific aims of the PTCS program are:

  • To establish the PTCS as a coordinated inter-institutional granting mechanism through which to stimulate, evaluate and fund pilot and collaborative clinical and translational research
  • To devise funding priorities commensurate to the promotion of clinical and translational research
  • To use the pilot award program to support and facilitate the education and training of individuals in programs leading to advanced degrees in clinical and translational research

By bringing together the research communities of the four leading academic institutions of southeast Wisconsin (MCW, MU, UWM, MSOE), the efforts of the collaborative, multi-disciplinary research teams enhance the technologies and expertise of each partner institution.

Pilot grants that support the research projects of these teams not only stimulate research but also facilitate the nucleation of researchers from various disciplines to perform team science. This instills a more robust and rewarding environment for translational and clinical science at the participating institutions in order to transform the research environment within them to align with the objectives of the National Institutes of Health.
