Scientists benefit from internal and external processes that allow them to conduct and disseminate high quality research efficiently. The Research Problem Solutions (RPS) Service supports their efforts using tactics drawn from management science, including LEAN, process improvement and change management.
The RPS service works with investigators who perceive barriers to their research, or with organizations that want to enhance research processes more broadly, to:
Clarify the “pain point(s)”
Identify the process that seems to be functioning sub-optimally
Select the approach that seems most likely to improve the process
Work with teams and stakeholders to achieve permanent breakthrough results
In some cases, a LEAN approach is appropriate – identifying the desired product of the process and mapping the so-called “value stream” can remove excess or redundant steps and simplify the process.
