Office of Research – CTSI External Review Program

In this difficult funding environment, it is important that MCW faculty put forth the best possible grant applications. In conjunction with the CTSI, the Office of Research is pleased to provide resources for external review of applications for R01 level grants (from NIH or other major funders) prior to submission. CTSI membership is not required for this program, which is open to investigators across the spectrum from basic science to clinical research to population science research. Assurance that the application has been internally reviewed and is supported by the Chair is required.

A full NIH style review will be requested of the outside reviewer, who ideally will be an individual with recent study section experience in the relevant area. The reviews will be officially solicited by Elizabeth Jacobs, MCW Associate Dean. An honorarium of $750 per proposal will be made available to external reviewers for a timely return of the review.

Interested faculty will submit an application form to notify Dr. Jacobs of their commitment to have a complete draft of a grant application ready by the deadline date and to provide information regarding selected external reviewers. Forms can be obtained from Dr. Jacobs or Lynne Prost (contact information below). Reviews will be solicited such that the PIs will receive the review not less than 3 weeks in advance of the MCW deadline for submission, thus allowing for time to modify the application based on reviewer comments.

The following timelines will apply:
