i2b2 is a tool for investigators to use to determine if a cohort of patients exists, identify potential research participants and capture study data. It provides a cost-effective, efficient, comprehensive IRB-approved environment to gather and query data for research. It will include data from patient visits, treatments, procedures, diagnosis, etc. that are part of the EPIC clinical record. By performing a query of the warehouse for de-identified patient information, researchers will be able to quickly identify the number of potential research subjects for studies. This will help accelerate the hypothesis and innovation in the translation of scientific discoveries to treatments.
