Module 1: When is something of commercial value?

Your Technology Transfer Office is interested in patenting those inventions with commercial value. If you have developed something, or are working on something that might have wider use or have the potential to be more broadly applied, it could be of commercial interest for public use and benefit.

If your invention solves a current problem and meets a market need, you may have an invention with commercial value. If an industry partner has already expressed interest in your work, then that is also a strong sign of commercial value. However, not every invention merits a patent nor does every patentable idea become a commercially successful product or service. To aid in the evaluation process, your Technology Transfer Office will pose a series of questions.
