Meet Nathan Tokarek, TL1 Pre-Doctoral Scholar

I am currently completing my second year as a PhD student at the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee, where I am pursuing a degree in Kinesiology. With the desire to positively impact the development of children’s long-term physical activity and sedentary behaviors, the opportunities provided through the CTSI START TL1 Mentored Research Training Program have allowed me to better understand the translational research continuum and how it relates to research conducted at the community level.

Nathan Tokarek

As a CTSI TL1 Scholar, I have been able to utilize the time and resources provided to focus on my development as a successful translational scientist. Through CTSI, I have received additional training in grant preparation and opportunities to present at both local and national conferences. These conferences also allowed for networking to take place with research professionals at various stages of their careers. Finally, I have managed to build strong community research partnerships, leading to the successful development and implementation of a research study.

Through the knowledge and experiences gained as a CTSI TL1 Scholar, I feel better prepared to make meaningful contributions in my field as a well-trained translational science researcher.
