2018 Saunders-Watkins Leadership Workshop

Seeking applications for the 2018 Saunders-Watkins Leadership Workshop in Health Disparities and Implementation Research for Early-Stage Investigators

 Workshop Overview

NHLBI/CTRIS is hosting a leadership workshop for early career investigators (both clinical and research) pursuing implementation research focused on heart, lung, blood, and sleep (HLBS) disease topics. The two-day workshop will take place on May 22nd – 23rd on the main campus of the NIH in Bethesda, Maryland.

Activities from this workshop will provide guidance and mentorship to early-stage investigators and facilitate career success in HLBS implementation research focused on health equity.  The workshop will feature research presentations from experts in implementation science (IS) and health equity (HE), as well as include the 2nd annual Saunders-Watkins Memorial Lecture. Invited participants will:

  • Learn about the NIH Grant Application and Peer Review processes
  • Interact with prominent IS and HE scholars
  • Participate in technical assistance activities
  • Consult with NIH Program Officers
  • Deliver research presentations (oral or poster)

Application Information

The deadline to submit the application to become workshop participant is Friday, March 16, 2018.  Application requirements include:

  • The application form
  • Current Curriculum Vitae
  • Personal statement (one page)
  • Research Concept Abstract (500 words maximum)

Invitation Process

A limited number of meritorious applicants will be selected to attend.  The workshop planning team will use established criteria to review and rank each application.  Potential participants will be notified as to whether they were selected no later than April 13th.

Questions about the workshop itself can be addressed by sending an email to CTRISSW@nhlbi.nih.gov.  All questions will be answered in the order in which they were received and as quickly as possible!
